Natural Detox Methods can be so easy! Are you ready to start taking better care of you? Today is a great day to start! Try these simple detox methods for better self care. No diet, juicing or supplements required!
Whether it’s a new year or any other day, making a commitment to take better care of you is always a good thing.
Have you heard the term SELF CARE mentioned more and more these days? Well there’s good reason for it. We all have busy schedules, whether that means working at home or out of the home, long hours or deadlines, school stuff, kids to take care of, homes to clean, food to make. You get the idea. We live in busy times.
We have forgotten how to take better care of ourselves.
That’s what self care is all about. Taking care of YOU! Yes YOU! It’s so important to take care of you, because if you don’t fill you cup up, you’re going to run out of steam.
Self care goes hand in hand with detoxing.
But I’m not talking about some crazy fad diets, juice cleanses or random supplements. I’m talking about easy, NATURAL, detoxing that is considered to be SELF CARE and taking good care of you.
Natural Detox Methods
Please note, every person is different. This is what I have found works best for me and my family. Try them out and see which ones feel the best for you.
Detox Baths with Epsom Salt, Baking Soda, Bentonite Clay & ACV
Detox baths are the best! They’re one of my favorite ways to help support the body. If you’ve never taken one, I HIGHLY recommend them.
All you need is some Epsom Salt, baking soda and an added bonus – bentonite clay {optional, but pretty awesome from time to time}.
Epsom Salts are known for their magnesium-rich content and their detoxing abilities. They are wonderful! Baking soda is also great for supporting the body with detoxing and it’s relatively cheap.
I like to add 1 cup of Epsom Salt and 1 cup of baking soda to the bath, making the water as hot as I can stand. Soaking in the hottest water you can stand is important to help facilitate the detoxing process. Once the water starts to feel more tolerable, make sure to stay in the bath for another 10 minutes. This is one of my favorite forms of self care because it forces you to slow down and spend at least 30-40 minutes alone. Make sure to bring some water into the bath with you to sip on too!
From time to time I like to add 1/4 cup Bentonite Clay to the detox bath too. I always keep it on hand for so many things. It’s a must have in my natural first aid kit. Bentonite Clay is known for its healing and detoxing properties; it helps draw stuff out of the body.
I also love adding good ole unfiltered apple cider vinegar {ACV} to the bath. It’s known to help support detoxification and helps draw stuff out of the body. I like to add 1 cup into the bath. It also helps soften the skin, an extra bonus.
A NOTE ON BATH WATER: I highly recommend using a bath filter. Bath filters help remove toxic chlorine from bath water in minutes. I use one for my family and can tell a huge difference in the water {I can actually smell the difference too, after soaking the filter in the water, there is no longer a chlorine odor}. If you don’t have a bath filter, you could add a small amount of powered vitamin c instead, which is known to help cancel out the chlorine.
Dry Brushing
I can’t say enough good things about dry brushing. It has been life-changing for me. If you’re new to dry brushing, it’s a wonderful tool for wellness as it stimulates the lymphatic system. That means you’ll be helping your body detox by getting old skin off of your body and also waking up your lymphatic system up which helps you detox. It helps support the immune system too!
Dry brushing is so easy to do. It’s a wonderful addition to your daily wellness routine. As a bonus, it also helps soften and smooth the skin too, and many people say it’s great for helping smooth cellulite.
I like to dry brush every day before I shower or before taking a detox bath. All you need is a good dry brush to get started and a simple tutorial for how to get started {this is the best one I have found, it’s super short and easy to follow}. After dry brushing make your shower water or bath water as hot as you can stand to help boost the detoxing process.
I have found that dry brushing helps give me a huge energy rush too! We all need a little energy boost from time to time right?
If you’re new to dry brushing, just know at first the brush bristles feel a little rough on your body, but over time this will go away as your body gets used to it. You don’t have to brush hard on your skin, just lightly.
Rebounding
Rebounding is known for being a wonderful way to help detox the body. Rebounding is basically a fancier word for a trampoline. Yep, I’m talking about bouncing on a trampoline for several minutes.
Why? Yes, it’s great exercise, but it’s wonderful for detoxing too because it’s known to help support lymphatic drainage and in turn help supports the immune system and immune function.
Not only will you get a great workout out of it, but you’ll also be detoxing and getting junk out of your body at the same time! Plus it will help give your immune system a boost! You can’t get much better than that.
Grounding or Earthing
Now don’t let me loose you here. Trust me on this one. First of all, grounding a.k.a earthing is FREE! All you need to do is get outside in nature, take your shoes off and get your feet on the ground! How easy is that?!
There is plenty of proof these days about how important and how beneficial grounding is for good health. Let’s face it, nature is healing. It truly is. Have you ever gone to the beach and thought afterwards, “wow, I feel great!” … well that’s because you were unknowingly practicing grounding.
Spending time at the beach with your feet in the sand, hanging out by the river with your feet in the water, laying down in the forest looking up at the sky … all of these things are grounding and help connect you to the earth. They help center your body and allow you to slow down and breathe.
Cleaning the Indoor Air You Breathe
Clean air gets overlooked all the time. But we spend so much time indoors, especially at night when we’re sleeping for many hours.
Have you ever stopped to think about that air that you’re breathing? Did you know that most homes have really poor air quality compared to the air outside?
Cleaning your indoor air is such an easy solution to help your body detox. It will help reduce your exposure to toxins and other environmental things that you have no control over. For example, mold, dust, dander, smoke, chemicals, etc.
To help clean your indoor air, I highly recommend three things: 1) True HEPA Air Purifier, 2) Himalayan Salt Lamp and 3) Essential Oil Diffuser.
I think every home should have an air purifier. Truly, they are just so important. I’ve been through 3 toxic mold homes and I can’t stress enough how important clean indoor air quality is. Not all air purifiers are created equal though. It’s very important to use a True HEPA air purifier, others just don’t work. “True HEPA” is key here. This particular model helps eliminate airborne bacteria, viruses, germs and mold.
Himalayan Salt Lamps are another good thing. They’re pretty too! But most importantly, when heated {turned on}, they are known to release negative ions to help purify the air. I like to keep them in bedrooms and also in rooms with technology stuff going on, for example, next to a computer {because they are also known to help reduce or block EMF’s which are no good for our health}.
And last but not least, essential oil diffusers. They are wonderful for helping clean the air in your home. I use these therapeutic-grade organic essential oils and would never use other essential oils in my home or on my body. I choose these essential oils because they are unrivaled in their quality and they are not adulterated with synthetic substances like most store-bought oils {which are perfume grade}.

Thanks so much Christina!
Isn’t it amazing how many great (and easy!) things that can be done to benefit the body without crazy diet plans! I love this! Thank you for the reminders!
Yes! So true Renee! Thank you for always reminding mamas to take good care of themselves too. You inspire so many people! xo
Love this article! Thank you!
Thanks Cristina!
Wow, very interesting! My nieces got a trampoline for Christmas so hopefully I’ll have a chance to rebound more often this year.
That would be so fun to get to do some rebounding with your nieces 🙂
Great post!! I love detox baths. And we have an AirOasis air cleaner.
Thanks awesome Katja! 🙂
I purchased a rebounder and a dry brush last year and can’t say I’ve done much with either, but this article has inspired me to try to incorporate those into my every day. I liked that video you linked to on the dry brushing because it made it seem doable. The other videos I’ve seen made it seem like some big elaborate process that I could never do (and hence, why I don’t). But her method looks like something that would be easy to do while waiting for my hot water to finally come! Thanks for sharing all of this!
Right? I thought the same think when I first started dry brushing, so many videos make it seem difficult. But the video I linked to is so simple. Once you get into a routine doing it, you’re going to love it. 🙂
This is awesome! I’m always looking for simple ways to detox without having to fast, or drink something bad tasting. Thanks 🙂
Thanks Stacey! Yes, they’re so much nicer than all of those other things 🙂
Oh! I love these tips – especially dry brushing and the cleansing baths. I just got a trampoline for my boys – but I’ll have to make it part of my routine to do it myself!
What a great gift for them, and for you too! Glad you enjoyed the tips 🙂
Fantastic tips! I already use Epsom salts when I take a bath and I do some dry brushing but I should really get into a daily routine with that. Trampolining or bouncing for detoxing is a new concept to me but it totally makes sense, not that I need an excuse to go bouncing :). Thanks for the advice on air purifiers too, I’ve been at getting one for a while now.
Thanks Irena! That’s wonderful that you’re already doing a lot of these. 🙂
Thank you for the great tips ! I learn so much from this post. Thank you !
Thanks ChihYu! Glad you found it helpful 🙂
Love my Salt Lamps! I am blessed to have 2!
Yes.. for sure.. we need to remind ourselves to look after US!
I don’t have a rebounder, but do practice the other ideas you have shared.
Dry brushing is so invigorating, isn’t it? Also add a little hot and cold hydrotherapy into my routine.
Do you ever do that? It definitely adds an energy boost to a shower!
Rebounder.. On the list.. and mmm.. a place to put it.. LOL.
Happy 2017 Emily!
Yes! I feel the same way about dry brushing. You know, I’m actually supposed to be doing hydrotherapy for a few months straight, but I haven’t done it yet. I need to as part of my healing. Thank you for the reminder Carol. xo
I love seeing this! It just kills me to see people spending hundreds of dollars each month on products to make them healthy! These are all great remedies for sure. I love my baths and always have my salt lamp on. Have you ever heard of Earthing shoes? I totally want a pair! I need to get out on the trampoline more often with my kids, I always forget about the benefits of rebounding!
I know what you mean! It makes me sad to see that too. I have heard about Earthing shoes! I would love some too!
Ah – so many good, important tips here to consider for my family! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Michele!
A truly interesting read….and quite helpful!
Thanks Taesha 🙂
What great tips, Emily! I need to be better about self care- I know it’s important. Thanks for all the info!
Thanks Jessica! I hope you’re able to find more time for self care this year 🙂
Epsom salt baths and grounding are my favorite, not only to detox but whenever I’m stressed!
I love that Dana! They really are so helpful for stress.
