These healthy Concord Grape Gummies are made from sweet concord grapes and grass-fed gelatin. They’re a delicious alternative to store-bought fruit snacks!
HEALTHY CONCORD GRAPE GUMMIES
Homemade grape gummies are such a fun food! They’re such a common snack these days, pretty much every child loves them.
Did you know homemade grape fruit snacks are so easy to make? It takes very little prep time and about 30 minutes later, they’ve set up in the refrigerator and are ready to eat!
It’s such an easy process that even toddlers and little kids can help make these. They can help measure the ingredients, pour and strain the Concord grape juice from the blender (if making homemade juice) and stir the gelatin mixture (with supervision).
Friends, these Concord grape gummies are so simple and so much healthier than store bought ones! Have you seen the ingredients from the most common concord grape fruit snacks?
Grape puree, corn syrup, sugar, modified corn starch, gelatin, concord grape juice from concentrate, citric acid, lactic acid, natural and artificial flavors, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), alpha tocopherol acetate (vitamin E), vitamin A palmitate, sodium citrate, coconut oil, carnauba wax, red 40, and blue 1”
The package label tries to get attention by claiming it’s “made with REAL fruit” - that’s all marketing. As you can see, fruit is not the main ingredient. There’s so much corn syrup and cane sugar in the fruit snacks - they’re the second and third ingredients, meaning the fruit snacks are more concentrated with those ingredients.
I’m also not a fan of modified corn starch and citric acid (it’s almost always grown on and a by-product of black mold). Then there’s the “natural flavors” and artificial flavors - did you know that so many things are allowed under the terms “natural flavors” and artificial flavors? You don’t truly know what you’re getting when you see those terms. Plus there are food dyes in those fruit snacks! There is nothing REAL and whole-food based about mainstream concord grape fruit snacks and gummies.
I like being able to decide what goes into the fruit juice gelatin gummies – everything from the sweetener, to the liquid/juice, to the extras like vitamins or other nourishing add-ons.
BENEFITS OF GELATIN
Making your own healthy grape gummies or grape fruit snacks is a great way to use grass-fed gelatin.
Many people get confused about the difference between gelatin and collagen. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and plays an important role in numerous bodily functions.
Gelatin is simply cooked collagen and gelatin will do exactly what its name says - gel and thicken when cooled. Collagen does the opposite, it mixes and dissolves in liquids.
Gelatin is known to support the following:
- Support gut function and digestion
- Support stronger bones, nails and teeth
- Support healthy skin, hair and nails
- Support joint health
- Help build and restore muscle
- Support a healthy metabolism
- Support brain function
- Promote deeper sleep
- Anti-inflammatory properties
- Source of protein
NOT ALL GRASS-FED GELATIN IS CREATED EQUAL
I only recommend one gelatin and collagen - and for good reason! This grass-fed gelatin is free of pesticides, hormones, chemicals, contaminants and it’s non-GMO too. The gelatin is made only from Brazilian pastured cows that spend their life in Brazil, grazing on grass.
Their Perfect Bovine Gelatin is the world’s only and first gelatin (and collagen) to earn the glyphosate residue-free certification from the Detox Project. Want to see the proof for yourself, you can view their Perfectly Pure glyphosate-free certification and their purity certification on their site.
You will not find that from other competitor brands on the market, especially the ones sold in grocery stores. Check for yourself - that popular green container that’s sold in many grocery stores and natural food stores was bought out by Nestlé Health Science and they do not have any glyphosate-free certifications listed publicly. Other brands like Knox and Great Lakes don’t fit the bill either.

WHAT MAKES THIS RECIPE GREAT
- Simple: It’s so easy to make your own homemade grape gummies - much easier than you would think! There’s only a small amount of prep time, the whole recipe comes together fast and it’s easy enough that kids can help make the recipe with you.
- Flavor: These grape gummies have the deep, sweet flavor of Concord grapes that finishes off with a slight tartness, similar to the nostalgic Concord grape jam and jelly flavor that so many are fond of.
- Kids Love Them: Homemade gummies are such a fun food for children and adults alike, everyone can enjoy them! They’re a great snack and perfect to include in school lunchboxes or to serve at home with lunch.
HOMEMADE GRAPE GUMMIES EQUIPMENT
- Blender or Food Processor: Using a blender or food processor is optional and only needed if you choose to make the Concord grape juice from scratch.
- Fine Mesh Strainer: If you’re making homemade Concord grape juice, you’ll need a fine mesh strainer to strain the juice.
- Measuring Spoons: You’ll need these to measure the gelatin.
- Large Measuring Cup: A large glass measuring cup or a large mixing bowl will be needed if you’re making homemade Concord grape juice. It’s also needed to let the gelatin “bloom” (when the gelatin absorbs all the liquid and swells), even if you’re using store-bought juice.
- Saucepan: A saucepan is needed in this recipe for the only cooking part - dissolving the honey and gelatin into the fruit juice.
- Whisk: You’ll need a whisk to stir the gelatin-juice mixture while the gelatin is dissolving into the grape juice.
- Silicone Molds: Although super fun, silicone molds aren’t the only thing you can use to make this gummy recipe with gelatin. My preference is silicone molds because it makes the grape gummies more exciting for little kids. You can also use an oblong glass dish and cut them into squares when the grape gummies have set - or you can try using cookie cutters to make shapes.
CONCORD GRAPE GUMMIES INGREDIENT NOTES
- Concord grapes or organic Concord grape juice: Concord grapes produce a dark purple juice that has the most delicious, sweet, distinctive flavor and aroma. It’s perfect for fruit juice gelatin gummies! Get fresh Concord grapes while you can - they’re season is short, September through late October.
- Filtered water: Water is an important base liquid for making homemade grape fruit snacks. Please make sure to use filtered to help keep these grape gummies healthy. Tap water contains “forever chemicals” and these contaminants are not good for us. You can find out what pollutants are in your tap water by entering your zip code at EWG’s Tap Water Database. Most water, including reverse osmosis, is stripped of minerals too, which our bodies need. This is my favorite water that is available for purchase in most grocery stores, they do home delivery too (my family gets this water delivered to our home twice a month). It has the perfect ph balance with calcium, magnesium and potassium and it comes straight from nature, filtered through granite-based aquifers.
- Grass-fed Gelatin: This is a must because gelatin is what thickens and gels the gummies when cooled. You cannot make gummies without this important ingredient. I only recommend this non-GMO grass-fed gelatin that is certified free of pesticides, hormones, chemicals and contaminants.
- Raw Honey: Honey is my favorite natural sweetener to use in homemade gelatin gummies. Make sure to use a lighter honey like clover, star thistle or orange blossom - wildflower varieties are too overpowering and strong in flavor.
- Whole Food Vitamin C Powder: I love this vitamin C powder as a nourishing addition, however, it’s optional. It’s made from organic fruit and berries including camu camu, acerola, amla and more. It does not contain any synthetic ascorbic acid, just simply whole foods ground into a fine powder.
HOW TO MAKE CONCORD GRAPE GUMMIES
It’s so simple and easy to make these grape gummies - all you need is 3 to 5 ingredients and a little prep time!
If you’re making homemade Concord grape juice, start by picking out some bunches of Concord grapes. They’re much larger than the usual grapes that you see in the grocery stores.
Concord grapes have a dark blue-purple skin and are light green inside with seeds. It’s important to look for organic Concord grapes because they are currently #6 on the EWG’s Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce Dirty Dozen™.
Notes on Concord Grape Juice
When making this grape gummies recipe, make sure that the homemade Concord grape juice is equal to 2 ½ cups. 4 cups of Concord grapes plus the ½ cup of filtered water should make 2 ½ cups of liquid, however, all produce is going to vary. If you need to, you can add more filtered water to increase the liquid volume.
If you are not making homemade Concord grape juice using whole grapes, you can just use 2 ½ cups of organic Concord grape juice instead and omit the filtered water.
Prep & Make the Concord Grape Juice
Make sure to wash the Concord grapes first - please don’t skip this step. Even if the grapes are organic, you’ll still want to wash them because oil based pesticides and ripening agents are found (and allowed) on organic produce. Washing the grapes in a vinegar-water, vinegar-salt-water or baking soda-water bath will help remove leftover residue, debris and dirt.
After you’ve washed and dried the grapes, remove the individual grapes from the stems and place the grapes in a blender or food processor, then add ½ cup of filtered water. Secure the lid on the blender or food processor and pulse a few times, just until the grapes have burst, started to release their juices and have turned into a purple juicy puree.
Next, set a fine mesh strainer over a large measuring cup or large bowl, then pour the grape juice puree through the strainer, leaving the seeds and skin behind to discard.
Prep the Gelatin
To a medium saucepan, add half of the grape juice and temporarily set aside.
Next, sprinkle the gelatin over the reserved fresh juice in the glass measuring cup or bowl. The gelatin will start to “bloom” which means it will start to absorb the liquid and gel or solidify as it sits. Let this rest while you prepare the remaining juice.
Get the saucepan with grape juice in it and place it over low heat on the stovetop. Gently warm the grape juice (do NOT boil or simmer it) for a few minutes until it is warm. Then add the honey and stir with a whisk until it dissolves, about 1 minute.
Add the bloomed gelatin-juice mixture to the warm grape juice, whisking to combine until all of the gelatin has dissolved, about 1-2 minutes, then remove from the heat. If any small lumps of gelatin remain, you can strain it through a fine mesh strainer. Straining it will also help remove some of the leftover foam from homemade grape juice, but this step is completely optional.
If you’re choosing to add the optional vitamin C powder, add it to the grape juice-gelatin mixture now and whisk to combine. Use the usage recommendations on the vitamin C bottle and choose the amount that works best for your family.
Prepare the Gelatin Gummies
Get your silicone molds ready (or glass oblong dish) and place them on a flat surface. Carefully pour the grape gelatin mixture into the silicone molds or glass dish.
Place the grape gelatin molds into the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to allow the gummies to set.
When the grape gummies have fully set, carefully remove the gummies from the molds or if using a glass dish, slice them into bite size pieces.
Store the grape gummies in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will keep for several weeks in the fridge, however, if you have kids, these will be gobbled up quickly!
RECIPE FAQS: TIPS FOR GRAPE GUMMIES SUCCESS
- Do you need silicone molds for this recipe? No you don’t, they are optional, however, silicone molds make these grape gummies super fun for toddlers and kids. If you don’t have silicone molds on hand, you can also use an oblong glass dish and cut the gummies into squares when the grape gummies have set.
- How many homemade gummies will this healthy grape gummies recipe make? The finished grape gummies yield will vary depending on whether or not you’ve used silicone molds or a glass dish. If using a glass dish, you can cut around 25 medium-size gummy squares.
- Can the grape gummies recipe be doubled? Sure! If you have lots of silicone molds to fill, you can double the recipe. This would be helpful if you’re looking to have lots of gummies on hand.
- How sweet are the grape gummies? These grape fruit snacks are mildly sweet, letting the Concord grape flavor shine through. If you prefer for them to be sweeter, you can try adding another tablespoon or two of raw honey. Concord grapes tend to be very sweet, so the ¼ cup of honey works perfectly for my family.
- Can you substitute the honey for another sweetener? Most likely, yes - but I haven’t tried that. You can try using another liquid sweetener, however, it will alter the flavor if you use a sweetener like maple syrup, which will change the authentic Concord grape flavor.
- Do you have a favorite honey to use in this grape gummies recipe? Yes! I only recommend using a mild, light-colored, quality honey for this recipe. Honey flavors like orange blossom honey, clover honey, thistle honey or alfalfa honey are known to be the most mild in flavor and will not take away from the natural flavor of the grapes. This is my favorite raw honey - I love their orange blossom and “original” honey. I also love using this raw honey, it’s easy to find online as well as at grocery stores like Sprouts Farmers Market.
- How long will these homemade grape gummies last? When stored in the proper air tight container, the homemade gummies should last a few weeks and will keep a little longer if stored in the refrigerator. Although, if you have kids, they’re going to gobble them up faster than this!
- What type of gelatin should be used for homemade gummies? I only recommend this non-GMO grass-fed gelatin that is certified free of pesticides, hormones, chemicals and contaminants. This gelatin is the world’s only and first gelatin (and collagen) to earn the glyphosate residue-free certification from the Detox Project (see the above notes on grass-fed gelatin in my post for more information). I have a 10% off discount for my readers - use NOURISH10 at checkout.
- How should these concord grape gummies be stored? Once the grape gummies have set, store the gummies in an airtight container and keep them in a cool, dry place or in the refrigerator.
Make sure to make up a batch of these Concord grape gummies while Concord grapes are in season. Their season is short - late summer through early fall, so grab some while you can and enjoy these delectable, homemade gelatin gummies!

I can't wait to try this. Do you think I could use other fruit? My toddler loves blueberries!
Emily Vidaurri
I haven't made it with blueberries, but I think as long as you have juice that is strained it will turn out the same. 🙂
Jamie
How long will these gummies store?
Emily Vidaurri
Hi Jamie, they are best stored in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, I've never stored them longer than that but I know some people store them up to a week. Mine just never last longer than 3 days because the family eats them up so fast.
Alli
Hi, I am looking to make these for my 15 month old daughter. Do you know what measurements I could use to make these more of a jello for my daughter to have? Just looking to convert this recipe. Also how much vitamin c does each gummy have per serving?
Emily Vidaurri
Hi Alli 🙂 You can check out my jello recipe and just swap the juice. I wish I knew the answer to the vitamin c aspect, I don't know what the actual nutrition facts would be for that. If you're using the vitamin C powder, you'll want to follow the suggested recommendations for servings - maybe that would help gauge about how much vitamin C is in them? I use about 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of the vitamin C powder that I use for my family. I hope she loves them!
Wendy
Does the homemade grape juice stain the silicone molds?
I'd like to try a smaller recipe. Can you give me the measurements for 1/2 cup of juice?
Emily Vidaurri
Hi Wendy, I've never had grape juice stain any silicone molds that I've used. Usually silicone doesn't hold stains of any kind. I hope you get to try the recipe! 🙂 I'm on maternity leave and don't have measurements for changing the recipe. I've never reduced the recipe and made a smaller batch, I'm guessing it would work just fine, but I can't say for sure.
