Then scratch making holiday gifts off of your to-do list!
I LOVE the holidays, I truly do. I find so much joy around this time of year. I love decorating my home with festive things I have collected over the years. I love the smells that warm the home like cinnamon, rosemary, citrus, cloves and fresh Christmas trees.
When it's freezing outside I love to cuddle up with my husband and sweet girls and sip on some nourishing hot chocolate. I love the seasonal foods that go along with holidays, especially the ones that fill the home with beautiful aromas like spiced apple cider, roasted chicken or turkey, cranberry cherry apple sauce and homemade pies.
I just love the coziness, special traditions, and cheer that goes along with the holidays.
But ... I don't care for shopping at the malls during the holidays. I know some people live for it, not me. But I do LOVE giving gifts!
Homemade gifts are so special!
So much love goes into making them. I grew up watching my mom make her famous Sherry Bundt Cake every December for all of her clients and close friends. She truly loved doing this and I saw how much happiness it brought her. She put so much love in those cakes and I think that's where my love for homemade gifts comes from.
I love the idea of making homemade gifts that really show how much you care. Who doesn't have exhausting days from time to time? I think it's safe to bet that we all do.
We all are in need of some relaxing, self care. It's good for the soul.
Bath salts soothe the mind plus body and are a great way to give yourself some extra love and attention.
This soothing, homemade mixture of dead sea salts, epsom salts, mineral-rich salt, detoxing clay and essential oils makes a perfect gift for someone special.

Tips on Bath Water
I highly recommend using a bath filter, especially for babies and children. Bath filters help remove toxic chlorine from bath water in minutes. I use one for my family and can tell a huge difference in the water {I can actually smell the difference too, after soaking the filter in the water, there is no longer a chlorine odor.}
HOW TO MAKE DIY CALMING DETOXING BATH SALTS EXTRA SPECIAL
I always have random extra glass jars in my kitchen cabinets, these work perfect for this gift. If you don't have extra jars hanging out in your cabinets, mason jars are inexpensive and work perfect for this gift.
You can find them in different sizes - these small and medium mason jars work perfect. If you want to add another layer of beauty, consider using these gorgeous vintage-inspired blue or green mason jars. They are beautiful on their own and can be reused {after the bath salts are gone} as flower vases, storage for pens or bath products like cotton swabs, or simply as a drinking glass.
Make up a cute little label with card stock/thicker paper. I used pinking shears to add an extra decorative edge to my label. You'll need a hole punch to make a small opening, then string some twine or pretty ribbon through the hole and tie it around the top of the mason jar.
Make sure you write the instructions for how to use the DIY calming detoxing bath salts on the back of the label: Add 1 cup to hot bath water. Let your body absorb the nutrients - soak in the hot bath for 15-20 minutes. Rinse off with water only. Save the soap for another bath.
Extra Touches: Head outside and explore your natural surroundings. Look for some fresh redwood/pine/cedar tree stems/leaves, acorn caps, little pinecones or beautiful leaves. Use a hot glue gun and secure what you find together and add it to the ribbon around the jar.
I used some redwood suckers that were growing out of the bottom of a redwood tree trunk. Then I used the hot glue gun to glue the leaves together with an acorn cap and tied that to the ribbon.
DIY CALMING DETOXING BATH SALTS
DIY Calming Detoxing Bath Salts
DIY Calming Detoxing Bath Salts … everyone needs a little extra pampering, these bath salts help soothe the body + detox too. Treat yourself or someone you love, relax and enjoy a hot, calming plus detoxing bath.
Materials
- 1 ½ cups dead sea salts
- ½ cup cup epsom salt
- ½ cup real salt
- ⅛ cup bentonite clay
- 7 drops lavender essential oil
- 7 drops frankincense essential oil
Instructions
- In a glass mixing bowl, combine all ingredients and mix with a non-metal spoon {metal can destroy the healing properties of the clay}.
- Store in an air-tight glass jar.
Notes
YOU WILL NEED: Glass Jars with Lids {like Mason Jars}, Large Glass Mixing Bowl, Wooden or Non-Metal Mixing Spoon, Measuring Cups or Glass Measuring Cup
Bath Instructions:
- Add 1 cup of bath salts mixture to a hot bath. Don't add bubbles or soap to the water.
- Relax and soak for 15-20 minutes so your body can sweat, detox and absorb all of the nutrients.
- When you're ready to get out of the tub, rinse off with water {not soap} if you chose.
- Yield: About 2 ½ cups
NOTES: Make as much of the recipe as you need - double, triple, quadruple, etc.
Ingredients I Use:
- Dead Sea Salts – I love this brand but I usually end up buying this brand because my local natural foods co-op sells it in bulk.
- Epsom Salt – I love this brand. Espom Salt is pretty easy to find in most larger grocery stores too.
- Real Salt – I use this because of its rich mineral content. You could also use a good quality mineral-rich sea salt like this.
- Bentonite Clay – I use this.
- Essential Oils – I only use therapeutic-grade essential oils. Whatever you chose, make sure to look for pure, high quality essential oils – many store-bought oils are not pure.
- I highly recommend using a bath filter, especially for babies and children. Bath filters help remove toxic chlorine from bath water in minutes. I use one for my family and can tell a huge difference in the water {I can actually smell the difference too, after soaking the filter in the water, there is no longer a chlorine odor.}

This sounds lovely. I make bath salts often, but never with bentonite clay...interesting. And I really appreciate the time you took to make suggestions of extras to add to the jars to beautify them for gift giving.

Emily! Love this idea as a gift idea!
Question on all the salts - I have a crap ton of epsom and sea salt but not the dead sea. Can you sub the dead sea salt for MORE of other salts. Just wondering if that changes things up at all, since it seems silly to buy a salt if I don't have to (ie keep it cheap :))
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
Thanks Sam xo you're so funny. I would just sub the epsom salt for the dead sea salt.
Jessica
Yes!!! THIS is a fantastic detoxing bath salt recipe. I love that you use bentonite clay, too. These would make such wonderful gifts for my girlfriends (...and for me 😉 ). Thank you!

Such a great mix of detoxing ingredients. This would make a great gift, but I think I'd keep it for myself. 😉
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
I know what you mean 😉

Love the addition of frankincense! Sometimes living in a foreign country is frustrating - not sure where to find epsom salt or bentonite clay. I did find some magnesium chloride though, I bet that would work.
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
That's a bummer that it's hard to find these things locally. I would guess the only other option would be to find them online.
Shelley
Thank you! I would love to make this for Christmas presents. Just wondering if the bentonite clay leaves a film in the tub though.
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
It does have a color {it's green}. Mine always washes down. I don't notice a film left, but I also have kiddos so I clean the tub pretty often.
Glorie
What do you meant by real salt in this recipe?
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
Real Salt is a brand of salt. Any good quality sea salt would work.
