Golden Milk lovers, this is the smoothie for you!
If you haven't heard about or tried Golden Milk or Turmeric Tea yet, then it's time to give some a try. In smoothie form of course, this High Protein Golden Milk Smoothie!
If you're new to Golden Milk, it's a traditional Ayurvedic drink made with anti-inflammatory turmeric, ginger, and other spices.
This delicious warming drink typically has a base of creamy milk or coconut milk and is commonly blended with ghee, coconut oil or grass-fed butter and a little bit of natural sweetener.
Golden Milk is known for promoting health and vitality.
It's smooth, creamy, spicy bliss. And I am a little bit obsessed with it.
I love Golden Milk so much that I enjoy it during the colder months as a warming drink. I also turn it into luscious custard, indulgent ice cream and creamy popsicles.
But since it's summertime and super hot out, my favorite way to enjoy it is in smoothie form, a delicious high protein Golden Milk smoothie!
All of the ingredients in this smoothie are delicious and healthy.
The main stars are spices - turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and cardamom plus an unexpected one ... WHOLE MILK cottage cheese!
Yes, I said whole milk. I'm going to get on my soapbox for just a minute. I grew up in the 80's, a time when everything was fat-free this and low-fat that. We have been fed false information for so many years about fat.
But here's the deal, traditional foods do not include low-fat or fat-free ingredients! This should be a wake up call, because there's nothing healthy about foods that have been stripped of their nutritional value.
Hopefully most of us know now that fat isn't something to be scared about and healthy fats like grass-fed butter, ghee, coconut oil, etc. are indeed healthy.
Getting down from my soapbox now to say, I am beyond thrilled that one of my favorite brands for cultured dairy, Nancy’s, has a newly released whole milk cottage cheese. Cultured whole milk organic cottage cheese is an option now!
It’s almost impossible to find quality, authentic, cultured, WHOLE MILK cottage cheese these days. Pretty much everything on the market is fat free, low fat and lacking in live cultures.
So make sure to keep your eyes out for this whole milk version or request it at your local grocery stores.
One serving of Nancy's Organic Cultured Whole Milk Cottage Cheese goes into this high protein Golden Milk smoothie and it packs 14 grams of protein!
I am all about smoothies that are packed with protein and have healthy fats in them.
I have been using Nancy’s products for many years. I remember having their yogurt as a young girl.
As a kid I didn’t know much about the history of Nancy’s, I just knew that I liked the tanginess and creaminess of their yogurt. But as an adult, I learned that Nancy’s is a great company and so inline with my thoughts on real food and sustainability.
One of my favorite things about this company is that they have been focusing on sustainability and organic practices way before it became popular. I also love that they are family owned and operated in Eugene, Oregon {since 1960}.
I love that they offer TRUE live probiotic cultured products. Their whole milk cottage cheese has billions of live active probiotic cultures!
How great is that?! We all know how important probiotics are for gut-health.
Pack live cultures and protein into smoothies!
The creamy whole milk cottage cheese in this high protein Golden Milk smoothie does both! It's full of probiotics plus protein!
Make this simple smoothie in minutes!
Layer that creamy whole milk cottage cheese, coconut water or coconut milk, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, a pinch of black pepper {which activates the benefits of turmeric}, a little bit or raw honey {or if you prefer organic maple syrup or liquid stevia}, a few soaked Medjool dates {or leave them out, they're optional} and some crushed ice.
Blend it all up for some creamy, icy, frothy goodness.
WHERE TO FIND NANCY’S COTTAGE CHEESE
You can find Nancy’s Organic Whole Milk Cottage Cheese and other Nancy’s products at a store near you by entering your city or zip code into their store locator. In Northern California, Nancy’s products can be found at most Raleys and Bel Air Markets, Sprouts Farmers Market, Nugget Markets, Whole Foods Market and many natural foods co-op grocery stores.

High Protein Golden Milk Smoothie
Heavenly, indulgent goodness, this High Protein Golden Milk Smoothie makes the perfect snack or breakfast on the go. This 9 ingredient smoothie is full of flavor and perfectly spiced with turmeric, ginger and cinnamon. It's easy to make, packed with protein, naturally sweetened with honey and dates plus has a no sugar option.
Ingredients
- 1 cup coconut water, coconut milk or milk of choice
- ½ cup organic whole milk cottage cheese
- 1 teaspoon ground organic turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground organic ginger
- ½ teaspoon ground organic cinnamon (this is my favorite orangutan-safe sustainable cinnamon)
- ⅛ teaspoon ground organic cardamom
- 1/16 teaspoon freshly ground organic black pepper
- 1 to 2 tablespoon raw honey or organic maple syrup - OR - ¼ teaspoon liquid stevia
- 3 to 5 Medjool dates, soaked and pitted prior to blending {see Notes} - optional
- 2 cups crushed ice - made from filtered water
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a high powered blender and blend until fully combined and smooth.
- Serve immediately. Enjoy!
Notes
- This is delicious topped with homemade coconut whipped cream or homemade whipped cream.
- If you're using dates, add them to a glass jar or bowl and cover with filtered water. Allow to sit at room temperature and soak for about 15 minutes to 30 minutes, until soft - prior to making the smoothie.
- If you don't care for the flavor of cardamom, by all means leave it out. I happen to love the flavor but it's not for everyone.
- If your blender isn't a high powered one, you might need to add an additional ½ cup of coconut water, coconut milk or milk of choice to get it to blend.

I LOVE the cottage cheese in this recipe. Nancy's cottage cheese was always a great protein option for me during my pregnancies; and my husband grew up putting it in his blueberry smoothies! Creamy, tangy and high in protein, such a perfect food. The *golden theme here is lovely, too!

I haven't actually had a golden milk smoothie yet - I make warm golden milk lattes all the time, but this will all have to change! It's just too hot to drink hot stuff right now, and a smoothie is perfect!

Golden milk lattes are awesome!!! Yum! 🙂
Hope

My favorite part is that this smoothie has whole milk cottage cheese. So chock full of nutrition and so delicious too.
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
Gotta love all of that whole milk goodness! 🙂
Rachel
This is great, I'll keep a look-out for that cottage cheese. I also think I'll add my vanilla protein powder to this (which has stevia included) so that I can skip the dates and honey!
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
That sounds perfect! I love using stevia too, that's great that you have a protein powder that is only sweetened with stevia!
Darryl Edwards
Love the idea of a golden turmeric based drink, will have to try this!
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
Thanks! It's a fun flavor combo 🙂
Melissa
Just made this for breakfast for my husband and I. It was delicious! He was unable to find Nancy's whole milk cottage cheese so he picked up what our local Raley's had and it was Nancy's low fat cottage cheese and it tasted wonderful! I tasted a few spoonfuls before adding it to the blender. Now I'm still on the lookout for other one. Thanks again for such a tasty recipe. It was our first time trying golden milk and we both loved it!
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
Thanks so much for sharing that Melissa! 🙂 That makes me so happy to hear, I'm so glad that it was enjoyed by the both of you. I'm glad you liked the Golden Milk flavor too!
Kelly
What? Talk about a twist. I love how you used cottage cheese to add extra protein.
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
Right? Who knew ... but it totally works. Thanks Kelly! 🙂
