7-ingredient 3 minute sugar free Instant Pot pear applesauce!!
This healthy snack is SO darn good!! With only 7 wholesome, basic, real food ingredients, it's so simple, yet bursting with amazing flavor and super easy to make!!
The smell of homemade applesauce cooking always reminds me of my mom. I love that a scent can take you back to a special, loving food memory so fast. Scent or aroma memories always amazes me. Isn't the brain fascinating?
I didn't grow up eating packaged applesauces in my school lunches. My mom rarely bought packaged applesauce, she didn't care for it. But she did make an amazing stovetop warm homemade applesauce.
My mom only made homemade applesauce with one meal - boxed mac n' cheese {yep, the common narrow blue box kind}, frozen petite peas in butter sauce and homemade applesauce.
This macaroni and cheese meal happened to be a staple in our home, we had this often and it was very special - because my mom made it with so much love.
This whole meal was cheap, making it very affordable for us. We both loved this comfort food meal and it filled our bellies when times were a bit rough financially.
And get this!! My mom didn't put cinnamon in her homemade applesauce, she always added a few Red Hots® {aka cinnamon imperials} to it to add cinnamon flavor.
Oh boy, my sweet, dear mom who didn't know better. I cringe at the thought of all that artificial red food dye!! Of course I had no clue about real food back then. I'm just so grateful for how much love my mom put into everything she made for me.
A simple, healthier fruit snack option!!
This Instant Pot pear applesauce is seriously one of the easiest snacks to make!! It's so incredibly delicious too!! It's like a smooth version of seasonal apple pie with more of a pudding texture, but not gelatin thick like custard.
Honestly I don't really know how to describe the texture, all I know is this stuff is crazy good!! True bliss.
Store-bought, packaged applesauce is usually full of non-organic apples {which is not good since apples are on the EWG's Dirty Dozen™ list}. It also has preservatives to keep that stuff shelf stable for as long as possible.
My Instant Pot applesauce version is loaded with lots of apples and pears with a hint of spices for the most delicious flavor!
It also has sweet, sustainably harvested {orangutan safe} premium cinnamon, fresh lemon juice, some healthy fat {because healthy fats are really important to pair with fruit}, and a pinch of sea salt for trace minerals.
If you love applesauce, you've got to try this amazing, quick and easy Instant Pot method!
I will never make pear applesauce another way. This method is just so simple and the Instant Pot cooks it perfectly every single time. You just can't go wrong!!
It's no shocker that I love making this 3 minute sugar free Instant Pot pear applesauce this way, considering I LOVE the Instant Pot® and I've written 4 nourishing cookbooks (The Art of Great Cooking with Your Instant Pot, Amazing Mexican Favorites with Your Instant Pot, Low-Carb Cooking with Your Instant Pot AND The Big Book of Instant Pot Recipes) using this amazing kitchen tool!!
The Instant Pot® cooks everything perfectly - roasts, corned beef, ribs, deviled eggs, soups, pasta dishes, delicious drinks and even sweet treats!

3 Minute Sugar Free Instant Pot Pear Applesauce
3 Minute Sugar Free Instant Pot Pear Applesauce
3 Minute Sugar Free Instant Pot Pear Applesauce is pure perfection! Skip the store-bought applesauce and enjoy this delicious, easy to make seasonal bliss instead. It's Paleo friendly, dairy free and can be flavored with chai spices or traditional sweet cinnamon.
Ingredients
- 6 organic apples, peeled if preferred and quartered
- 6 organic pears, peeled and quartered
- 2 tablespoons grass-fed butter, ghee or refined coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon sustainably harvested ground cinnamon
- Juice of 1 small organic lemon
- ¼ teaspoon mineral-rich sea salt (this is my favorite sea salt)
- ½ cup filtered water
Instructions
- Wash and prep all of your apples and pears. I peel the fruit because that is my family's preference. If you don't mind the skin, by all means leave it on. Core and quarter all apples and pears and toss them into the Instant Pot stainless steel bowl.
- Add healthy choice of fat, cinnamon, lemon juice, sea salt and water into the Instant Pot stainless steel bowl with the fruit.
- Put the Instant Pot lid on and secure it in the locked position. Plug in your Instant Pot. Make sure the vent on top of the lid is in the sealed/closed position. The Instant Pot should be turned on, you'll hear a little sound that it makes. Press the MANUAL button. The high pressure light should be red, if not, press manual again to get it to switch from low pressure to high pressure. Then press the "-" sign to decrease the time to say 3.
- Walk away from your Instant Pot. Don't worry, it will do it's work. It will end up saying "On" for a while during the "pressure" increasing and heating process. You might see a little steam escape through the top vent area, that's okay. It will only release a little bit. Once it has started to cook, you'll see the number 3 on the screen and it will decrease as it cooks.
- When the Instant Pot is done cooking, it will beep to let you know. Press the "Keep Warm/Cancel" button and then unplug the Instant Pot. Again, walk away for about 10 to 15 minutes while the Instant Pot releases the pressure. The little silver circle next to the vent will drop down when it's ready. If you're not sure, using an oven mitt, turn the vent to "venting" - it will release some steam and then the silver circle will drop. Carefully remove the lid and enjoy the aroma.
- Ladle the mixture into a high powered blender {my preference} or food processor. If there is a lot of excess liquid leftover in the stainless steel bowl, only use about half of the liquid. Pulse just until fully combined and smooth {you could also use an immersion hand-held blender}. You may need to do this in batches if you're using a blender - make sure to leave at least a few inches of space in the blender and not fill it to the top as the hot steam will need room to escape.
- Enjoy the pear applesauce warm or cold.
Notes
- Use a variety of apples and pears for lots of flavor. My favorite combination is Honey Crisp apples and Bartlett pears. Asian pears are delicious and can be used too.
- Dairy Free Version: Use ghee or refined coconut oil/expeller pressed coconut oil {this version of coconut oil will have less "coconut" flavor}.
- For a Sweeter Version: If your pears are not very ripe, add 3 drops liquid stevia or up to 1 tablespoon quality honey (not wildflower - it's too overpowering flavor-wise) or pure maple syrup.
- For a Chai Spiced Version: Add ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves, ⅛ teaspoon ground fennel seed, 1/16 teaspoon ground cardamom, and ½ star anise {optional} to the Instant Pot with all of the other ingredients. Make sure to pick the star anise out of the mixture once it's cooked and discard before blending the applesauce.
- Storage: Store applesauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Please Note: As with all Instant Pot recipes, the Instant Pot takes time to come to full pressure. The *cook time* for this recipe is 3 minutes, but it will take several minutes to come to full pressure depending on many factors like how cold the apples, pears and water are, etc. It will also take about 15 minutes after cooking to naturally decompress.

I used to make a pear applesauce on the stovetop all the time when my kids were babies! I think it's even better than traditional applesauce. Yours looks delicious, Emily, and you're making me think (again) that I really need to get an Instant Pot!
Yang
Ha, every time I read your blog, your gorgeous recipes just make me want to get an instant pot of my own! I bet this recipe can be canned too to last a whole winter. YUM!!! Thanks for sharing!

This recipe couldn't be more timely! Our pear tree is ready for picking and we were just discussing what we'll make with the bounty! Do you think this recipe would work if we quartered and cored our pears, then froze them. Then defrosted them to make pear sauce in the winter? We hate heating up our house in the summer, and the extra heat is perfect during the cold winter months!
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
I love that you have a pear tree!!! I'm sure that would work, typically frozen things seem to work well in the IP and will make little difference. It will just take longer to come to pressure. 🙂
Melissa
Emily! So beautiful as always! I am definitely trying this recipe ?
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
Thanks so much for your kind words Melissa! 🙂 xo

I love my Instant Pot for fruit sauce!! I was just having a convo with my Mom about how much we have all learned about real food and the difference in processed food over the years. I am excited to try this combo!
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
I love that you were having that conversation with her. The difference really is crazy.

Brittany Hollie
YES!!! I love pears and apples but never thought of pairing them together to make applesauce. I'm definitely trying your recipe this fall. Think I will make the Chai version. MMMM! 🙂
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
They're so yummy together! 🙂 Chai flavors are so yummy, I hope you enjoy it.
Irena
Love the addition of pear!!! I think it adds such a lovely aroma to the sauce. My neighbour has a lot of apples in his garden, so I might ask for a bag and make a sauce for all of us.
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
That's so cool! There's nothing like fresh fruit off of the tree. I hope you get to enjoy some. 🙂
Kelly
Girl you had me at 3 minutes! I'm going to stop at the farmers market and get some pears so I can make this. Yum!
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
Enjoy it! I hope your little ones love it too. 🙂

Love this recipe. So simple and so easy to make homemade pear applesauce. Yum !!
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
Thank you! Sometimes simple is so perfect. 🙂
Lori Moreland
My neighbor gave me a huge bag of small pears. What do you estimate the weight is for the pears in your recipe?
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
Hi Lori, that's so nice that your neighbor gave you those pears. I'm not sure what the weight is for the pears, but it's based on just the average size of pears - so probably medium-size pears. This recipe is pretty forgiving, sometimes I add a few extra pears or apples and it still turns out great. I hope you get to enjoy some. 🙂

Easy, fast, healthy, and mouth-watering applesauce, Emily! I cannot ask for more. How do you usually eat or use this pear applesauce?
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
Thanks! 🙂 I usually just eat it as is. It's so yummy that I just love it as a snack. But you could serve it as a side with most meals.
Donna
I love this! I have never thought to make it in my instapot!! Brilliant!
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
Thanks! It's so easy in the IP! 🙂

That’s a great idea blending apple and pears- so simple and easily to be overlooked as an idea but actually pretty common sense!
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
lol yes! 🙂 Sometimes the simple things are the best.
Katja`
Thank you for this super easy recipe. Looks so yummy!!
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
Thanks Katja! 🙂
Kristen
This sounds amazing, but do you have a recipe for stovetop or crockpot? Or any suggestions how to modify for either?
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
Hi Kriten, I don't. I don't use a slow cooker anymore for several reasons. I know there are sites available online that will convert Instant Pot recipes to slow cooker recipes though - maybe that could be of help? Stovetop will take much longer and I'm not sure how long or if the liquid ratio will still be appropriate. You could give it a try, maybe bringing it to a boil and then reducing to a low simmer the rest of the cooking time? I really don't know so I can't say for sure, but that's my best guess. Cook until the fruit is soft and tender, and then follow the remaining steps in the recipe. Hope this helps! 🙂

Very interesting...I planted 2 dwarf pear trees a few years ago. This year I had enough pears on one tree to do something with. You actually cut down the cooking time and added the flavor of pear to the plain apple sauce. This fantastic combo in fact increased the sweetness in a natural way. That's a super idea of sharing sugar free recipe. Thanks a lot for such a quick and healthy recipe!
Jerilyn
Hi, Can I water bath can this recipe for longer storage or haven't you tried that? Thank you.
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
I have never tried canning this, I wish I knew the answer for you. I have frozen the applesauce with great success however. 🙂
Mindy
Absolutely delicious! My first time ever to make apple or pear sauce and the flavor together is awesome or just using the pears. I haven’t done just apples because I had an over abundance of pears. I could never get tired of eating this apple pear sauce. I used coconut oil for the fat and added no extra sugar in one batch and in the other I added 3 teaspoons of truvia. No after taste and delicious! Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe!
Emily Sunwell-Vidaurri
I'm so happy to hear that Mindy! So glad you enjoy it. 🙂
